History

Originally started as an architectural and engineering firm, HSA Engineering was established in 1995. The two original founders were Mr. Scott Hathaway, an architect with a passion for creative and exquisite designs that bring joy to communities all over the mid-south; and Mr. John Symonds, a mechanical engineer with extensive knowledge in industrial, medical and municipal areas. Mr. M Scott Archer joined Hathaway, Symonds & Associates in 1998 as a mechanical engineer and later became a Partner in 2000. Mr. Archer has a vast amount of knowledge covering many areas of design and specializes in the design of educational commercial and healthcare facilities.

In 2001 the name was changed to Hathaway, Symonds & Archer, Inc. and the office was moved to where it resided, until 2017, at 5701 Euper Lane, Suite A, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Mr. Hathaway decided to pursue opportunities outside the company in late 2003. By this time the engineering side of the company had become known as a reputable team of engineers and Mr. Symonds and Mr. Archer re-established the firm as an engineering only firm as it remains to this day. Following Mr. Hathaway's departure, the name was changed to HSA Engineering Consulting Services, Inc. in 2004 and the decision was made that the name would remain the same even when partnerships changed hands. HSA relocated to the Chaffee Historic District in Fort Smith at the beginning of 2018; where the owners renovated a military warehouse to accommodate the growth in company size. Currently, only one founder, Mr. M. Scott Archer, still remains with the company. There are now five primary partners who run HSA. Mr. M. Scott Archer, Mr. Robert May, Mr. Trey White, Mr. Nathan Wilson and Mr. Michael Rappold.
