About HSA

Who We Are

At HSA Engineering, we design the systems that keep buildings running—and people comfortable, safe, and productive. For nearly 30 years, we’ve partnered with architects, contractors, and facility owners across Arkansas and beyond to deliver reliable mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) solutions.

From healthcare and education to commercial, municipal, and industrial projects, we know every job comes with its own challenges. Our role is to simplify the complex—to design systems that are efficient, practical, and built to last.

HSA was founded in 1995 by architect Scott Hathaway and mechanical engineer John Symonds. A few years later, mechanical engineer M. Scott Archer joined and eventually became a partner, helping to shape HSA into a respected, engineering-only firm.

Over the decades, we’ve grown, relocated, and added new partners—but our commitment has stayed the same: to deliver engineering solutions that make a lasting impact. Today, HSA is led by five partners—Scott Archer, Rob May, Trey White, Nathan Wilson, and Michael Rappold—continuing a tradition of technical expertise and client-focused service.

Our team

Behind every drawing set is a team of people who care about doing the job right. Our staff includes six licensed professional engineers—two of whom are LEED-accredited—along with engineer interns, drafting technicians, a construction supervisor, and a skilled support team. Together, we bring a mix of experience, fresh thinking, and collaboration to every project.

We’re big believers that the best ideas don’t come from silos. That’s why engineers, drafters, and interns alike have a voice at the table. It’s how we catch problems early, strengthen designs, and keep projects moving smoothly.

Our Approach

We don’t just provide drawings—we provide solutions. Every project starts with listening: understanding the client’s needs, budget, and long-term goals. From there, we design with efficiency in mind, balancing innovation with practicality. We use advanced tools like AutoCAD and Revit, but it’s our people—not the software—that make the difference.

Our services span the full project lifecycle, including:

  • Master plan and program reviews
  • Cost estimating
  • Schematic design
  • Design development
  • Construction documentation
  • Bidding and construction administration
  • Project closeout

LookingAhead

As building systems become more complex, our role has never been more important. We see every project as a chance to bring clarity to complexity, helping clients build spaces that work better today and stand stronger for years to come.
